Manchester United return to action in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday as they face League One side Barnsley in the third round of the competition.

The Reds are fresh from a positive result away to Southampton in the Premier League. Goals from Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho earned a 3-0 win.

That came after a mixed start to the season, with two defeats and one win in the opening three games of the campaign.

With a busy schedule ahead, Erik ten Hag’s side will have full focus on their Carabao Cup outing this Tuesday against Barnsley.

Ten Hag’s first piece of silverware came in this competition, with United beating Newcastle 2-0 in the Wembley final in February 2023.

Barnsley won against Wigan on penalties before winning 1-0 against Sheffield United to reach this stage of the competition.

Kick-off times & venue

The match will be kicked off at 20:00 BST on Tuesday, September 17, following United’s travels for the early Saturday afternoon game on the weekend.

Ten Hag’s men will be back at Old Trafford, where United need to start building a winning streak like they did during the Dutchman’s first season in charge.

TV channel

In the United Kingdom, the game will be available to watch on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football. Meanwhile, international coverage can be found here.

The UtdDistrict X account will also cover the fixture, providing quotes from Ten Hag and the players before and after the match.

Latest team news

Ten Hag has already confirmed that Rasmus Højlund, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount will remain out of action for this clash. Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia are also unavailable.

Victor Lindelöf’s fitness is currently unknown after the Swede missed the start of the season, but he could be a subject in Ten Hag’s pre-match press conference.

Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martínez all came off against Southampton, and while De Ligt was only suffering cramp, it is likely all three will be rested for this encounter.

Manuel Ugarte could be in line for his first start after coming off the bench to make his debut on the weekend, while several youngsters will also be in contention to play. Ethan Wheatley and Harry Amass, in particular, will be hoping for some level of involvement in the game.
