Erik ten Hag confirms triple injury blow for Man United’s next clash vs Barnsley
Erik ten Hag has confirmed a triple injury blow for Manchester United’s upcoming Carabao Cup clash against Barnsley.
The United boss made two changes to the lineup against Southampton, starting Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen, as the team earned a deserved 3-0 victory.
Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford, and substitute Alejandro Garnacho found the back of the net, while André Onana’s penalty save helped preserve the clean sheet.
After the victory, the Reds will focus on their first cup game of the season as they host League One side Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
Currently, there are several players out of action and Ten Hag will be hoping for returns for them soon.
Ten Hag confirms three absences for Barnsley
Speaking after the 3-0 win over Southampton, Erik ten Hag was asked about the condition of Rasmus Højlund, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount.
Højlund and Shaw were originally expected to be back fit for the clash against The Saints but were ruled out of the game, while Mount is more likely to return later this month.
However, when asked about the trio, Ten Hag confirmed that none of them will be available for the next game against Barnsley but hopes that they can be involved in a busy September period.
“Of course it’s an important period with many games to play – I think seven in 22 days,” he told reporters.
“We need everyone and hopefully players are returning. It will not be the case for the next game, but hopefully in the next weeks they [Hojlund, Mount and Shaw] will return to the squad.”
An important period
A win against Southampton was needed, but now United have several important games in the coming weeks, including Premier League outings against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
They also start their Carabao Cup and Europa League campaigns and hope to perform well in the cups, with them being the best chance for Ten Hag to secure silverware for the third year in a row.
United could either build some vital momentum in the coming weeks or there will be more question marks over the manager.
