Three Manchester United academy starlets could make debuts vs Barnsley in Carabao Cup
Three Manchester United academy starlets could be in line to make their first-team debuts later this month in the Carabao Cup.
The Reds have stumbled at the start of the new season, securing just one Premier League win in their first three matches.
A 3-0 loss to rivals Liverpool followed a defeat against Brighton, where United conceded a last-minute winner.
Although the opening win against Fulham showed some encouraging signs, Erik ten Hag’s side still has significant work to do.
Upon their return to action later this month after the international break, United travel to play Southampton in the Premier League before turning attention to their first taste of cup action in the new season.
With a Carabao Cup clash against League One side Barnsley, Ten Hag should provide chances for some of the young talent at Carrington, and three players in particular could get their chance.
Harry Amass
Of course, Harry Amass excelled with the first-team squad during pre-season but is not yet trusted to be thrown into Premier League action.
This game is a great chance for the 17-year-old to show Erik ten Hag his current level and how he can fair alongside the first-team regulars in a competitive game.
Jack Fletcher
Jack Fletcher has been one of the standout performers for United’s youth sides this season. He stood out in the EFL Trophy victory against the exact same opposition that United will be facing at Old Trafford.
He scored two goals – one being a stunning volley from 30 yards out – and reports have explained that he is on Ten Hag’s radar. An opportunity from the bench could be forthcoming for the midfielder.
Ethan Ennis
Lastly, Ethan Ennis could be an option to be included in the squad with a chance of coming on. He has started the season well, scoring three goals in four appearances for the Under-21s.
The 19-year-old has shaken off his prior injury troubles that affected his earlier development and looked sharp during pre-season with the first team.
Ennis is another player that Ten Hag rates, and considering his versatility across the frontline, he could be brought into the squad for this Carabao Cup clash.
