Manchester United star made deadline day transfer U-Turn, he impressed vs Southampton
One Manchester United star made a transfer U-turn on deadline day this summer before impressing in his display against Southampton this weekend.
The Reds completed the signings of Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte this summer.
These new recruits have strengthened Erik ten Hag’s team considerably, and United’s successful player sales over the summer helped finance their transfer strategy.
Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay, and several others departed the club during the transfer window.
However, there were other potential exits that did not materialise for several different reasons.
Casemiro’s transfer U-Turn
Following Casemiro’s disappointing display against Liverpool before the international break, there were rumours of a potential move to Galatasaray.
It was stated that United was open to a move with the right offer, but various outlets eventually reported that a deal was not going to happen.
According to a new report from Football Insider, the 32-year-old had initially agreed to join the Turkish giants after they had agreed the terms of a loan deal with United.
However, the report claimed that Casemiro changed his mind at the eleventh hour and is now set to stay at Old Trafford, with the Turkish transfer window closing later this week.
It is expected that Casemiro will instead leave the club next summer, alongside fellow experienced midfielder Christian Eriksen.
Casemiro’s better display vs Southampton
Casemiro was taken out of the firing line against Southampton and looked set to be an unused substitute when Antony was preparing to come on as Ten Hag’s fifth change late in the game.
However, after De Ligt suffered a cramp late in the game, the Dutch manager decided to take no chances and introduce the Brazilian, who came on as a centre-back.
Despite this, he managed to play a beautiful pass behind the opposition defence to set up Diogo Dalot’s assist for Alejandro Garnacho in the final moments of the game.
It would provide some much-needed confidence for Casemiro, who will undoubtedly play an important role for United this season.
