Manchester United’s 25-man training squad vs PAOK confirmed with four surprise inclusions
Manchester United’s 25-man training squad ahead of the Europa League clash against PAOK has been confirmed, with four surprise inclusions.
Manchester United are preparing for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s third match in charge as interim manager, with another must-win Europa League fixture on the horizon after a shaky start to the campaign.
The Reds are currently 21st in the new league table format, a position that just qualifies them for the play-off knockout rounds but leaves little room for comfort. Wins are now essential to solidify their standing.
On Wednesday evening journalists were in attendance for the beginning of United’s final training session before the game.
Marcus Rashford had some extra individual training before the session began and he joined up with the rest of the group.
The big news coming from the session was that Leny Yoro had returned to team training after his lengthy injury absence. The Frenchman had surgery on a foot issue during pre-season.
Yoro did not complete the entire session with his teammates but looks like he’s making solid progress to return under new head coach Ruben Amorim after the international break.
Tyrell Malacia had recently been taking part in the beginning of team training sessions but the left-back spent the entire time with the squad on Wednesday as he nears a return to the pitch after 18 months on the sidelines.
Van Nistelrooy revealed that the fullback could play with the club’s Under-21s to get match fitness.
Meanwhile, among the regulars in the session, two relatively unknown Academy prospects were included in first-team training. Jack Fletcher, Harry Amass and Ethan Wheatley were absent due to their involvement in the UEFA Youth League.
Dan Armer and Jack Kingdon were both training with Van Nistelrooy’s side ahead of Thursday’s game. Kingdon was a key player for the successful Under-18s last term while 17-year-old Armer is making a positive impression in Adam Lawrence’s side this season.
Antony, Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen were also training with the squad after injury concerns for all three of them in recent weeks.
The full training squad ahead of United’s clash against PAOK can be read below.
Goalkeepers: Onana, Bayindir, Heaton, Mee
Defenders: Dalot, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Yoro, Lindelof, Evans, Malacia, Armer, Kingdon
Midfielders: Ugarte, Casemiro, Eriksen, Mount, Fernandes
Forwards: Garnacho, Rashford, Amad, Antony, Zirkzee, Hojlund
