Erik ten Hag agrees with Christian Eriksen’s shocking Manchester United admission vs FC Twente
Erik ten Hag has agreed with Christian Eriksen’s shocking admission following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against FC Twente.
In Manchester United‘s opening Europa League match of the season, Erik ten Hag faced a frustrating 1-1 draw against his former boyhood club, FC Twente.
While Christian Eriksen scored a superb goal in the first half, the Danish midfielder’s lapse in concentration allowed FC Twente to equalize with 20 minutes remaining.

Despite introducing Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Højlund to boost their attack, United failed to convert their late pressure into a winning goal, resulting in a disappointing draw.
Following the result, Eriksen admitted that, rather shockingly, the team agreed in the dressing room after the game that Twente wanted the result more than they did.
“We wanted more, but in the end, it was far from good enough, and we said in the changing room that it looked like they wanted it more, and that can’t be right,” Eriksen told TNT Sports.
“I think, personally, you score a goal and think you’re a matchwinner, but obviously it’s gone the other way. Everyone is looking at themselves. Everyone is a professional footballer.
“They know what to do, what can’t happen and in a game like today, we didn’t lose, but it felt like a loss and against FC Twente at home, that can’t happen.”
Although this rather intimate detail of the players’ discussions may have taken United fans by surprise, it is a message that Ten Hag seems to agree with.
“It was the game of their life; they fought for every yard, and we didn’t,” the Dutch manager said in his post-match press conference.
“99 per cent is not enough; you have to give 100 per cent, you have to kill the game, finish it off. We are leading 1-0, but you have to go for the second goal, then you kill the game.”
United’s next game will be against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. The side is currently 11th in the Premier League table and looks to get back to winning ways.
