Donny van de Beek and Marcus Rashford send messages to ex-Man United teammate after MOTM performance
Donny van de Beek and Marcus Rashford have sent messages to one of their former Manchester United teammates after a Man of the Match performance this week.
Manchester United sold Donny van de Beek in the summer to La Liga side Girona for a minimal fee after an unsuccessful spell at Old Trafford.
The Dutch midfielder was never able to recreate his form from Ajax due to various reasons, including a bit-part role behind Bruno Fernandes.
Anthony Martial was another player who departed the club in the summer. He left at the end of his contract in June.
The Frenchman signed for Greek side AEK Athens on a free deal and has now made three appearances for the club.
His first two games came as a second-half substitute before Martial was given his full debut in the cup against Aris Thessaloniki on Wednesday evening.
The centre-forward scored the only goal of the game and picked up the Man of the Match before coming off at 70 minutes.
Martial took to Instagram after the game, uploading a picture of him with the Man of the Match award. He added the message: “Good win and happy to score my first goal at home.”
Donny van de Beek was quick to reply to his former teammate, responding with a muscle and heart emoji in the comments section.
Former United goalkeeper Joel Pereira also commented a heart-face, fire and heart emoji. Marcus Rashford also added two love-heart emojis for his former strike-partner.
Van de Beek had a difficult time at Old Trafford, like Martial during his final few years at the club.
The pair had unsuccessful loan spells as they searched to find their way back into contention at Old Trafford, with injuries also playing a part for both of them.
Now, Van de Beek has found a home at Spanish side Girona, where he has played 11 games so far this season. Martial will also be hoping to kick on after his Man of the Match display this week.
