Erik ten Hag feels ex-Ajax star is the “best in the world” at his role, says Fabrizio Romano
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester United’s pursuit of a player Erik ten Hag feels is one of the “best in the world”.
Manchester United are looking to sign a midfielder this summer as Erik ten Hag looks to improve his squad to a maximum capacity his summer.
Having already signed Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee to complement the back and forward lines, United very much need new men in the middle, which was a significant weakness last season.

Despite the talents of Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo being clear as day, Casemiro failed to live up to expectations, and a new replacement is needed.
While United have been linked with many midfield names in recent weeks, one player who has cropped back up is Frenkie de Jong—a man who United fans pleaded for two seasons ago. Reports have claimed a “tentative approach” has been made.
While United and Barcelona agreed a fee for De Jong in the summer of 2022, the club failed to convince the player to join the Old Trafford side. The club was left with an egg on its face as its multiple-month pursuit of the Dutchman left it empty-handed.
However, with Ten Hag feeling that De Jong is second to none for his role, Fabrizio Romano has explained that there are no concrete updates regarding a potential deal.
“I don’t have any concrete update at the moment on Frenkie de Jong (to Manchester United), to be honest,” he told GiveMeSport.
“All I’m hearing is that there is nothing concrete or nothing advanced.
“We know that there has always been an appreciation, a historical appreciation, and Ten Hag considers de Jong one of the best in the world in his role.”
United have also been linked with AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana and are thought to have entered talks to sign him, but they would have to fight AC Milan for his signature.
