Manchester United find themselves 10 points ahead of their arch-rivals going into Sunday’s grudge match at Anfield.

It’s a scenario that not many supporters envisaged when Manchester United finished 34 points behind Liverpool less than 12 months ago.

This season, the tables have turned and Erik Ten Hag’s men can take a huge step to securing a top-four spot with a win on Merseyside this weekend.

Here is how the form of both teams looks going into the game:

Manchester United

Last five fixtures: D, W, W, W, W

The Reds rounded off an almost perfect February with victory at Wembley and started March in a similar fashion, beating West Ham at Old Trafford to progress to the FA Cup Quarter Finals.

A draw at Camp Nou is the only minor blot as Ten Hag’s side have found another gear despite the congested fixtures challenging the strength of his squad.

As the United manager stated after the game on Wednesday night: “They hate losing!”; a statement that Reds around the globe will hope still holds true come Sunday evening.

Liverpool

Last five fixtures: W, W, L, D, W

Jurgen Klopp’s ‘Mentality Monsters’ are having a season to forget. This time last season, there was talk of a quadruple heading to Merseyside.

Fast forward 12 months and Liverpool find themselves out of the FA Cup, facing a battle to finish in the top four and have one foot out of the Champions League after a dramatic collapse against Real Madrid.

The Liverpool manager will be encouraged with just one loss in their last five, with wins against Wolves, Newcastle and cross-town rivals Everton in that period but they can’t afford to drop any more points if they want to secure Champions League football next season.

Sunday’s game has a lot riding on it for both teams and as usual, it promises not to disappoint.
