Erik ten Hag has addressed his chances of staying at Manchester United beyond this season as he prepares his side to face Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag‘s second season as Manchester United manager has not gone according to plan. After winning the Carabao Cup and finishing third in the Premier League last season, things were looking up.

However, after crashing out of the Carabao Cup and Champions League in late 2023, United are once again wallowing sixth in the Premier League table, with a fight for FA Cup glory the only positive thing left this season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City are all fighting for the league title, with Jurgen Klopp’s men set to face United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

What Erik ten Hag said

There has been a lot of debate surrounding whether Erik ten Hag will still have his job next season – but when asked if he feels he will retain his position, he said he has “no doubts”.

“I don’t have any doubts,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “I’m just focusing on my job, focusing on this process, in this project. I really love to be here, I’m enjoying it. For me it’s a challenge.”

‘We are still progressing’

United have had many setbacks of late, conceding late goals to Chelsea and Brentford in the league. But, Ten Hag also made the point that he feels United are processing despite recent setbacks.

“It will not go always in the right way, it’s not going always the results in the way we wanted but I’m sure we’re in the right direction and we will get where we want to be,” he said.

Ten Hag set to stay

Sources have told UtdDistrict during the international break that Ten Hag currently has a lot of support from various people at the club, who believe that he’s done the best in difficult situations this term.

Those people think that the Dutchman is the right man to take United forward under INEOS even if the team does not qualify for the Champions League next season.

It is also understood that Ten Hag is still involved in the recruitment process ahead of the summer transfer window and is unaware of whether INEOS has made any final decision on the hot seat at Old Trafford. So far, INEOS has shown him support in their conversations.

Sources added that Ten Hag has the backing of the United dressing room, and the players within the squad believe in him to turn things around.
