According to reports from Spain, Manchester United will submit a formal offer for 25-year-old Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo this summer on one condition, and they have informed his agent.

New reports from the last week have claimed that Manchester United want to sign two new central defenders this summer, as it is likely that three may depart in the coming transfer window.

Raphaël Varane is almost certainly going to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires next month, and the futures of Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelöf are all unclear.

With this in mind, there have been a whole host of links between United and new central defenders, and Spanish outlet Sport (page 2) has now provided an update on United’s rumoured pursuit of Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo.

According to the report, Barcelona want to extend Araujo’s current contract by two more years, but they are not offering the terms that the Uruguay international wants. His current deal expires in 2026.

The report goes on to explain that United have “already informed” his agent that they will “submit a formal offer” for the defender but that they will only do so if he tells Barcelona he wishes to leave the club.

Araujo wants his future settled and finalised before the start of Copa America, which kicks off on 21 June – not to long after the start of the European Championships in Germany this summer.

Bayern Munich have also expressed an interest in the 25-year-old, with the Bundesliga club also aware that Barcelona are monitoring the situation of Joshua Kimmich and would be willing to enter into a duel-negotiation.
