Former Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero has set a challenge for Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho after his excellent Champions League performance this week.

On Wednesday evening, Borussia Dortmund won 1-0 against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their semi-final clash.

Sancho stood out from the rest of the players on the night, with the 24-year-old completing 12 take-ons, more than any more in the last eight years at that stage of the competition.

The winger was exiled from the United squad earlier this season after he released a statement suggesting Erik ten Hag was a liar. The manager stated that Sancho’s training performance was the reason he was left out of a matchday squad.

Whilst Sancho hasn’t lit up the Bundesliga since returning, he is clearly more confident and that was evident on Wednesday night. He received praise from one Real Madrid star.

When asked about his future by CBS, Sancho admitted he was unsure where he will be next season, with rumours that an Old Trafford exit is likely.

“I really don’t know,” he said after the game. “I’m just focused on just the present right now.”

However, Alessandro Del Piero has urged Sancho to return to Old Trafford, with the former Juventus forward claiming that it is “destiny” for him to challenge himself at United.

Del Piero told CBS: “If a player like him can play these kind of games, with this kind of quality, you need to go to Man United.

“Next year maybe, one more year, let’s see how he feels, which coach, ok, everything, this kind of player needs to play every year at the top.

“And Dortmund, don’t get me wrong, they deserve to be there; they may go to the final and win the Champions League, but [it would be] something extraordinary for that.

“With Man United, they are supposed to go every year. I know they are struggling, but you have to, you want to achieve with the big clubs and this is the destiny of Man United and the destiny of him at some point.

“I hope for him that he can go there and perform in that way, with that personality, I really hope so.

“Tonight he was unbelievable, he was dribbling everybody.”
