Erik ten Hag’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka problem might be solved by West Ham

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has fallen very far down the pecking order at Manchester United ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was let go from the club last summer.

When Ralf Rangnick took over the reins as interim manager, it did not take long before Diogo Dalot overtook Wan-Bissaka as the first-choice right-back and the club have not looked back since.

The £50 million signing, secured from Crystal Palace in July 2019, has only played four minutes so far this season, and his first start under Erik ten Hag came during a 1-0 friendly loss against Cadiz.

Diogo Dalot has started 21 of the 22 United games this season, missing one due to suspension – against Fulham. Despite the starting spot being available, Wan-Bissaka was not even in the squad, with new signing Tyrell Malacia covering for Dalot in the fullback position.

With his future at Old Trafford incredibly limited as reports of Ten Hag being open to selling the player as early as mid-July, West Ham are now reportedly interested in taking the player on loan.

This is according to the Manchester Evening News, who state that West Ham have a good relationship with Wan-Bissaka’s representatives, Unique Sports Management.

With Ten Hag clearly not trusting Wan-Bissaka as a secure enough deputy to Dalot’s position, West Ham, through their interest in providing the Englishman with a starting spot in their XI, are helping the Dutch manager with a puzzle that he seems yet to solve.

Ten Hag has mentioned many times his desire to have at least two top-quality players in each position, and United’s pursuit of Barcelona’s Sergino Dest indicated he felt this requirement is not currently filled at right-back, meaning if Wan-Bissaka were to leave on loan once the January window opens, Ten Hag would then be provided with the ability to bring a new right-back to the squad for the second half of the season.

Although there is yet to be any indication of permanent offers for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, should he perform well at West Ham, this loan move could see his value and target market rise, creating a positive outcome for all involved once the summer window opens and Ten Hag looks to find a more permanent solution to the right-back situation.
