Manchester United receive Kobbie Mainoo injury update ahead of FC Porto clash
Manchester United have received an update on Kobbie Mainoo’s injury situation after he hobbled off the pitch during the loss against Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United suffered their third defeat in six Premier League games, losing 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
It was a difficult day for Erik ten Hag’s side, who lost Bruno Fernandes to a red card just before the half-time whistle.
While the Portuguese star is now back available for selection after a successful appeal to the Premier League, his midfield partner Kobbie Mainoo’s exit was more concerning.
The 19-year-old midfielder left the pitch at the same time as Fernandes with what looked to be a hamstring issue.
“I can’t say in this moment,” Ten Hag told MUTV after the game at Old Trafford. “I have to find out but, of course, when a player is coming off before half-time already, then there are some concerns.”
However, after several days, fresh rumours suggest that the injury is not going to keep the youngster out for a prolonged period.
UtdMenace, an account on X who provides behind-the-scenes news at Old Trafford, has stated that Mainoo’s hamstring injury is not thought to be serious.
Despite this, it still seems unlikely that the midfielder plays against FC Porto on Thursday in United’s second Europa League game of the season.
Instead, the likes of Manuel Ugarte, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro will be in contention to start in the deeper midfield roles.
Mainoo’s playtime had been a regular concern of fans in recent weeks after a breakthrough campaign last term.
He made 35 appearances for the club before being an important player for England at Euro 2024 and has since started every Premier League gam this season.
