What Casemiro did during Manchester United’s win over Barnsley, it showed great leadership
Casemiro played 90 minutes as Manchester United progressed into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup following a 7-0 win over Barnsley.
Marcus Rashford confidently opened the scoring for Manchester United, with Antony doubling the lead from the penalty spot.
Alejandro Garnacho extended the advantage just before halftime, giving the Reds a comfortable cushion.
In the second half, both Rashford and Garnacho netted their second goals of the game before Christian Eriksen completed his own brace.
Erik ten Hag’s side delivered a dominant performance, cruising into the fourth round of the cup with an emphatic victory.
Casemiro’s leadership on display
Casemiro came back into the lineup after being taken out of the firing line against Southampton.
The Brazilian had a challenging game against Liverpool before the international break but would have gained some confidence through his last two appearances.
Ten Hag decided to give Casemiro the captaincy going into this game and the former Real Madrid midfielder displayed exactly why he is a leader in the United dressing room during the first-half of the game.
This match always seemed like an excellent opportunity for United players to gain some confidence, particularly the attackers.
After Rashford scored the opener and Antony won the penalty, it looked like the English forward was going to take the penalty.
However, MEN reporter Samuel Luckhurst detailed that Casemiro had gone up to Antony before, and his Brazilian teammate soon got the opportunity to take the penalty he had won.
Antony dispatched the penalty excellently, which would have been essential for his confidence after a difficult spell of form.
All of the forward players who started the game managed to get on the scoresheet, which would have been particularly pleasing for Ten Hag.
