Erik ten Hag calls out journalists after Manchester United’s 7-0 win vs Barnsley
Erik ten Hag has provided a subtle dig to the media following Manchester United’s impressive 7-0 win over Barnsley.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for Manchester United with confidence, followed by Antony netting a second from the penalty spot.
Alejandro Garnacho added another goal just before half-time to give the Reds some more breathing room.
In the second half, Rashford and Garnacho both scored their seconds of the game before Christian Eriksen netted his own brace.
Erik ten Hag’s side put in a fantastic display and smashed their way through to the fourth-round of the cup.
Ten Hag sends message to journalists
Ten Hag rotated the lineup for this cup match and made five changes in the game.
Alejandro Garnacho thrived after the manager was criticised for having him on the bench in recent Premier League fixtures.
Ten Hag responded to such criticism following the game on Tuesday evening, with the manager claiming that he is not dropping players when they are out of the team.
He has stressed the impact of the players coming off the bench and also seemingly wants to have better rotation in his team with fewer injuries this season.
“The conclusion from all of you [journalists] is not right when I pick 11 that I ‘drop a player’,” he said in his post-match press conference.
“No, I pick a starting 11 because we have to rotate. We have more than 11 players who can be in the line-up in any match.”
The United manager and his team will be turning their attention back to Premier League action against Crystal Palace this weekend.
Following on from that, they host FC Twente in their opening Europa League fixture of the season.
