Manchester United star told to “retract statement” after embarrassing Spurs comment
One Manchester United star has been told by Rio Ferdinand to “retract” his embarrassing statement following their 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United suffered their third Premier League loss in six games, a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs took an early lead through Brennan Johnson and kept up the pressure on André Onana’s goal throughout the first half.
United’s situation worsened just before halftime when Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a reckless challenge on James Maddison, which led to a decline in their performance.
Tottenham doubled their lead shortly after the break, and despite United’s efforts to fight back, Spurs secured the win with a third goal from Dominic Solanke 15 minutes from the end.
Ferdinand slams Bruno comments
Fernandes came out to front the media duties after full-time and the midfielder praised the efforts from his teammates after he was sent off.
However, one comment from the club captain rubbed Rio Ferdinand the wrong way and the former defender has told Fernandes to “retract” his inaccurate statement.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, he said: “I’ve just seen Bruno came out and spoke and one of the quotes that came from there was that he said James Maddison said it was not a foul and not a red card.
“Which is fine, but it’s a red card. And I think Bruno said ‘there’s many good things we can take away from today, I’m really proud of the team’.
“He’s going to have to watch that game back and then retract that statement. Because that isn’t right, he hasn’t seen it the way we’ve seen it on TV.”
Ferdinand is right
While you could praise moments from the players in periods of the second half, it was far and away one of the worst performances from Ten Hag’s side since he took charge.
Players have come out in recent games and stated that there are positives to build on, and it looked like they were correct. But for this game, there is no time to talk about ‘good things’ to take away.
It was reminiscent of the final games under Ole Gunnar Solskjær or Jose Mourinho. Ultimately, Ten Hag was probably fortunate that Fernandes was sent off. Things were already very concerning before that moment.
