Ole Gunnar Solskjær agrees with Sir Jim Ratcliffe assessment, he says “yes” to potential Man Utd return
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has agreed with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s main assessment after taking charge at Manchester United as the former boss is open to an Old Trafford return.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær initially returned to Manchester United as interim manager in 2018 before being appointed permanently ahead of the 2019/20 season.
The former striker, famous for his last-minute winner in the 1999 Champions League final, experienced mixed results during his time in charge.
After finishing third and second in his first two full Premier League campaigns, expectations were high following the 2021 arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphaël Varane, and Jadon Sancho.
However, a disappointing third season led to his departure in November 2021. He was replaced by interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who was then followed by Erik ten Hag.
Recently, Solskjær expressed interest in returning to manage the club if given the chance. “If your family asks you, you say yes every day of the week,” he admitted, as quoted by Sport Witness.
“It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have, but I would say yes, of course.”
If that situation did occur, it would be a very surprising development but Solskjær would be working under very different circumstances.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team have created a new leadership team at Old Trafford and the new United chief has already explained that they are operating with a long-term goal in mind and things won’t change immediately.
“The fans are impatient. I knew that, yeah. But it’s a journey. Whether they like it or not, they have to be a bit patient. It’s not a light switch,” he told the BBC earlier this year.
“You can’t just turn it around like that. It takes a bit of time. But we will.”
This is the exact point that Solskjær made when he was asked about the new ownership on The Overlap earlier this year.
“I don’t think there’s a magic wand (at United) as in, ‘We’ve changed the owners’,” explained Solskjær.
“Obviously, they’ve got their ways of working – the Glazers have still got their commercial – who knows how it’s going to be in football with that side of it.”
