Manchester United icon offers fans hope surrounding Erik ten Hag – “best we’ve seen”
A former Manchester United defender has offered fans hope following Erik ten Hag’s mixed results so far this campaign.
So far this season, Manchester United have won only two of their opening five Premier League fixtures while also drawing their first Europa League game of the campaign.
Wins over Southampton and Fulham have been followed by a draw against Crystal Palace, as well as losses against Brighton and Liverpool. In the Europa League, the side drew with FC Twente.
The club’s only convincing win has been against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup, with the squad recording a 7-0 win at Old Trafford two weeks ago.
However, despite some fans feeling unsatisfied with the results, former United defender Paul Parker, who won two Premier League titles with the club, has offered them hope, explaining that the team’s performances have improved compared to last season.
“There are improvements,” Parker explained to BetFred. “Their ball retention is better, and we saw that against Crystal Palace.
“It’s the best we’ve seen from them recently because they were productive as well. It wasn’t just laboured passing, they were passing with purpose and the game was a decent 0-0 because of that.
“Palace only came back into the game because of the substitutions that the manager made, which stopped them going forward as a team.”
However, Parker also stated that the club should look to bring in another forward in January because he feels someone is “not right” in-house.
“The back four is fine and it can only be improved by a natural left-back, in midfield there are big decisions for Erik ten Hag to make. Up front, in January, they may have to bring somebody in because in-house, I’m not sure it’s right.”
