According to reports, Dan Ashworth is looking to raid Chelsea for his first Manchester United target as he joins Erik ten Hag’s club as a sporting director from Newcastle.

With Manchester United seeing success on the field throughout the course of 2024, INEOS are also seemingly flying through all their top appointments upstairs at Old Trafford, having appointed Omar Berrada as the club’s new CEO and look set to bring in Dan Ashworth as the club’s first ever sporting director.

On-field, the club have won consecutive games against Wolves, West Ham, Aston Villa, and Luton Town, and Ashworth has asked to leave Newcastle United this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

And now, according to  The Sun, Chelsea analyst Kyle Macaulay could soon join up with Ashworth at Old Trafford.

Ashworth is keen to bring in a new team with vast experience to aid his new job at United, and Macaulay, who signed for Chelsea in 2022 alongside Graham Potter, is part of that.

Ashworth is set to have his role expanded at United compared to the one he has at Newcastle and is also looking at bringing in Brighton’s head of recruitment, Sam Jewell.

Macaulay is well thought of at Stamford Bridge, and Ipswich technical director Sam Williams is also being lined up for a role at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are now going to push to pay Newcastle a compensation fee for Ashworth’s services, hoping it will help him skip a potential gardening leave period – but The Telegraph have revealed that it would take more than £20 million for this to happen.
