Will Ole Gunnar Solskjær be offered the Man United job if Erik ten Hag is sacked? Journalist explains
Ole Gunnar Solskjær had admitted that he would like to return to Manchester United while Erik ten Hag’s job lies in the balance.
Erik ten Hag has endured a tough start to the season, with Manchester United winning only three of their first eight matches across all competitions.
Their recent Premier League games at Old Trafford ended in 3-0 defeats to both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite exploring other managerial options, INEOS chose to retain Ten Hag over the summer and extended his contract until 2026.
He was backed in the transfer market, with five new signings, including Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte, to bolster key positions.
Reports have claimed that the United boss will remain in charge for the next two games against FC Porto and Aston Villa but his future beyond that is in doubt.
Will Solskjær be offered Man United job if Ten Hag is sacked?
According to a new report from GiveMeSport, even if Ten Hag is sacked, Ole Gunnar Solskjær is not expected to be offered his desired return to the club.
Last week, the former United manager and player admitted that he would be open to re-joining United if offered the opportunity.
“If the family asks, I would say yes every day of the week,” Solskjaer said at the Oslo Business Forum. “It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have now, but I would say yes, of course.”
The aforementioned report also mentioned that Ruud van Nistelrooy is unlikely to get the job on a permanent basis as INEOS would look for a more experienced coach.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag will be focusing on attempting to turn things around with the next game on Thursday evening against FC Porto.
