Mount, Shaw, De Ligt: Manchester United latest injury news with surprise update
Erik ten Hag has issued fresh updates on multiple Manchester United players as they welcome Barnsley to Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.
After consecutive losses to Brighton and Liverpool, Manchester United rebounded with a dominant 3-0 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s.
The game started at a fast pace, and after 30 minutes, Diogo Dalot conceded a penalty, but André Onana’s save swung the momentum United’s way. Moments later, Matthijs de Ligt headed in a Bruno Fernandes cross for his first goal with the club, and Marcus Rashford made it 2-0 with a curling shot before the break.

Alejandro Garnacho added a third in stoppage time with a powerful strike, securing a much-needed win for United.
Their focus now shifts to the Carabao Cup, where they’ll host League One side Barnsley in the third round— a competition Erik ten Hag won in 2023.
Ahead of the midweek tie, Ten Hag offered several injury updates, confirming that despite slight doubts, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, and Lisandro Martinez are all available for selection.
“They are all available,” he said of the defensive trio on Monday afternoon. “They are good.
“I hope I have headaches because, last year, I also had headaches, but there were no players available.
“So, I hope I have many players available, and we can make a selection from game to game. Definitely, we have to rotate because we have to cover so many games and so, it’s not only about a starting XI.”
Further, a surprising report from the Manchester Evening News has revealed that Mason Mount, who was integral to the squad’s early pressing success, may return to the team sooner than expected after stepping up his recovery.
Ten Hag also addressed Luke Shaw’s injury progress while refusing to deny the notion that Manuel Ugarte may start for the club for the first time following his debut against Southampton off the bench.
“First, Luke Shaw, he’s progressing but not ready yet to be selected,” Erik added, during his press conference at Carrington.
“Of course, we have a plan in our head when he can be ready but you are always dependent on how the progress will go. You can’t think, you can’t make a suggestion [of a return date] because there are so many factors why a plan can accelerate or slow down.
“[As for] Ugarte, you will see tomorrow what the selection will be for this game.”
As for the others, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Leny Yoro, and Rasmus Hojlund will remain on the sidelines, having missed the Southampton tie, although the latter is increasingly close to a return to the team for his second season at Old Trafford.
