Thomas Tuchel vows to rejuvenate the careers of two Man United stars at Old Trafford
Thomas Tuchel reportedly met with Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe last week to discuss the managerial role at Old Trafford.
Tuchel is among the top candidates for the Manchester United job this summer if Erik ten Hag is dismissed as manager.
The German coach left his position as Bayern Munich manager at the end of last season and has prior experience in the Premier League with Chelsea.
Despite a difficult season that saw the club finish eighth in the Premier League and exit the Champions League before Christmas, United’s FA Cup victory has earned Ten Hag some extra credit.
While the final decision over the Dutchman’s future is not yet confirmed, it has been well-reported that INEOS chiefs have been speaking to potential replacements.
German reporter Christian Falk has claimed that Tuchel and Sir Jim Ratcliffe met in Monaco last Tuesday, during which the 50-year-old explained his plans for the club if he were to take over the role.
One of the aspects that Tuchel mentioned was how he could improve underperforming players within the squad, something that had been a criticism of Ten Hag last season.
The report added that the German boss explained to United’s co-owner how he would be about to get the club’s ‘sporting problems’, such as Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount, back on track and showing their quality.
He highlighted Antonio Rüdiger as an example of him being able to get players with great potential back to their top performance. Rüdiger had many critics at Chelsea before his transformation under Tuchel and is now a crucial player for Real Madrid.
Sancho seems unlikely to return to Old Trafford but it appears that Tuchel would be open to working with the former Borussia Dortmund star. Mount was at Chelsea while Tuchel was in charge at Stamford Bridge and was a crucial player at that time.
This is something that will certainly interest INEOS, who are working on a tight budget this summer and would likely prefer to see improvements within the current playing squad.
