Newcastle United could look to sign one Manchester United midfielder in the summer if The Reds lower the price tag they’ve set.
United will be looking to further strengthen their midfield after the end of the season and that could mean that departures from Old Trafford occur.
Christian Eriksen and Casemiro strengthened the engine room by signing at Old Trafford last summer, but depth issues have proven to be apparent when either player is not in the starting XI. Eriksen has sustained a long-term ankle injury which has limited United’s on-ball abilities in deeper areas.
A new report from Rob Dawson of ESPN has said that additions to the midfield in the summer could affect the future of Scott McTominay.
Additionally, Newcastle United could be a possible destination for the Scottish midfielder, with manager Eddie Howe being a fan of McTominay. However, the side that United beat in the Carabao Cup final have so far been put off by United’s valuation of the 26-year-old being more than £40 million.
United have traditionally been poor at selling their players on due to their extraordinary wage structure and contract renewal process.
They could be aiming to finally begin to set their player prices higher in order to get the best possible deal, however, the necessity to strip down the squad in order to bring enough players into the club could be a disadvantage in negotiations.
McTominay has made 199 appearances for United, making his debut in May 2017 against Arsenal.
