Erik ten Hag has confirmed the team news for Manchester United ahead of their first-leg clash against Real Betis in the Europa League round of 16.

The Reds will be looking to provide a reaction to their Premier League embarrassment against rivals Liverpool and get one step closer to the next round of the competition.

Despite the loss on Sunday, United are still in a position where they could win an additional trophy to go alongside the Carabao Cup, and also finish in the top four. That would be considered a great first season in charge for Ten Hag.

However, United will be missing two players against Real Betis at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has confirmed that Marcel Sabitzer is unavailable for the clash. The on-loan midfielder missed out on United’s 2-2 draw against Barcelona at the Nou Camp through suspension and was then an unused substitute in the return leg the following week. His reason for being out was not specified.

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial continues to recover after suffering a number of different injuries that have kept him out of the team for the majority of the season. Ten Hag explained how he’s back on the grass at training but that the Betis clash comes too soon for him.

There have been doubts cast over the trio of Luke Shaw, Casemiro and Raphael Varane’s availability after the defeat at the weekend. Varane and Shaw had passed late fitness tests to play in that game, whilst Casemiro looked like he picked up a knock during the match.

It would appear that Ten Hag is expecting them to all be available on Thursday, however, further updates could be provided during his embargoed press conference, which is broadcast at 22:30 GMT on Wednesday evening.

Jadon Sancho has played just six minutes of football since United’s win over Barcelona at Old Trafford after Ten Hag explained how he still was getting back into the schedule. He will likely be starting against the Spanish opposition.

Real Betis have confirmed their travelling squad for the encounter, which doesn’t include Nabil Fekir, whose serious knee injury keeps him out of action for an extended period.
