Lisandro Martínez sends Man United fans injury message after FA Cup victory
Lisandro Martínez was present at Wembley as Manchester United stumbled their way into the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Martínez, 26, would’ve been watching on nervously as his teammates almost pulled off one of the more impressive capitulations of their season and perhaps one of the biggest FA Cup embarrassments in recent history.
However, despite going from 3-0 up to almost losing the game in the 120th minute, where a minuscule offside VAR intervention chalked off Coventry’s fourth goal, the Reds were victorious on penalties.
The competition’s final will take place on 25 May at 15:00 BST. It will be the first time since the 19th century that the same two teams will face off in conductive FA Cup finals.
Martínez was absent for United’s 2-1 defeat against Pep Guardiola’s men last term after sustaining a season-ending ankle injury against Sevilla in the Europa League.
Despite continued injury troubles this term, the Argentine central defender will certainly target the final as a game that he wants to play in, and he is reported to be back in training soon.
That appeared to be the message from his latest Instagram post, where Martínez used several emojis, including ‘soon’, a stadium and the devil alongside an image of him pitchside at Wembley.
United will be returning to the home of the England national team next month, and so will Martínez. This time, he will be desperate to be on the pitch instead of on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag will also be hoping for further injury returns as the season draws to a close. Martínez is one of five centre-backs currently unavailable for United.
Willy Kambwala, Victor Lindelöf, Raphaël Varane and Jonny Evans are also out and all missed the FA Cup semi-final. Harry Maguire, who had missed training all week, was partnered by Casemiro in the heart of defence.
