“It was perfect…” – Former Man United winger highlights Willy Kambwala’s best moment vs Liverpool
Former Manchester United winger and MUTV presenter Ben Thornley has picked out Willy Kambwala’s “perfect” moment against Liverpool.
Kambwala, 19, made just his second start for United in the Old Trafford clash on the weekend and impressed with his performance.
The teenager has now made eight appearances for the first team, and Erik ten Hag’s recent injury crisis in defence means that he will likely be relied upon more in the coming weeks.
Lisandro Martínez, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf and Raphaël Varane are all currently out of action, leaving Kambwala and Harry Maguire as the only two fit options in the centre of defence.
However, the Frenchman’s display against Liverpool showed promise, and there was one moment in particular which stood out to former United winger and MUTV presenter Ben Thornley.
Thornley described the passage of play when Kambwala mistimed a challenge which allowed Darwin Nunez the space to drive towards goal.
Kambwala quickly recovered and put in a crucial last-ditch tackle to deny Nunez the chance of scoring, and he was quickly congratulated by Diogo Dalot before turning to the Old Trafford crowd and waving his arms.
Speaking on MUTV, Thornley said: “Fantastic performance, it really was. To come into a game of that magnitude and perform the way that he did…
“The only mistake that he made, he rectified when he chased Nunez down and made what was potentially you know, a heart in mouth moment, it was perfect.
“Listen, all players make mistakes on the pitch, everybody from from the worst to the best that played have made mistakes on the pitch, but it’s how you respond and how you recover from them, and he did that straight away.
“I thought some of his tackles were brilliant. Everything that he did was really positive. I thought it was a magnificent performance. It really was.”
