Lisandro Martínez has suffered yet another injury setback and is likely to miss another month of action for Manchester United at the tail end of the season.

Martínez, 26, has experienced two long-term injuries this season and they’ve both been reoccurances of the ankle problem he sustained in the Europa League last season.

The Argentine defender spent time with his international teammates last week ahead of his return against Brentford. He came off the bench and played 30 minutes for United during the 1-1 draw.

However, following that game, it has been confirmed that Martínez has got injured at Carrington during a training session and will be out of action for another month.

The good and bad news for Martínez’s injury

Of course, Martínez was a key player for Erik ten Hag last term but has had little impact on the team this season simply because of his injury troubles across the campaign.

However, the 26-year-old will be unable to take part in United’s upcoming semi-final clash in the FA Cup against Coventry and whilst he will return before the end of the season, it seems unlikely he will be fully fit and ready when the final comes around if United progress.

On the other hand, the fact that United have revealed that the defender’s injury is a calf one can be taken in a good way, as it is not yet another recurrence of the ankle injury that has plagued him since last season.

However, that information can also be considered as a worrying update since it is likely to be a muscular injury, which have been plastered around the United squad this season.

Lindelöf also out, United need defenders in the summer

Victor Lindelöf has also been ruled unavailable for a month after sustaining an injury against Brentford. United only just got two defenders back from injury.

The position has been the most injured on the pitch for United this term and it must be a priority for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team in the upcoming summer window.

INEOS are interested in signing Jarrad Branthwaite and UtdDistrict understand that there is also appreciation for Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo, who would be available on a free transfer in the summer.

No matter what, it appears that just one defender in the summer will not be enough for United.
