Manchester United are among a host of clubs interested in signing Everton’s centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer transfer window.

Branthwaite, 21, has emerged as one of the hottest central defender targets ahead of the upcoming transfer window after an impressive season in the Premier League.

The English defender starred in the Eredivisie last term under Ruud van Nistlerooy at PSV Eindhoven and has since progressed further under Sean Dyche at Goodison Park.

UtdDistrict previously reported that Branthwaite is United’s priority target in the defensive position but that there could be issues over his potential fee, with Everton not keen to lose their impressive talent.

Fresh reports from footballtransfers.com have stated that United are intensifying their pursuit of Branthwaite ahead of the summer transfer window. However, they might face stiff competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid, both of which have expressed interest in the Everton defender.

The report added that whilst Newcastle have also expressed interest, it’s now believed that Branthwaite is unlikely to opt for a move to St James’ Park, effectively reducing the competition for United.

It has also been indicated that Everton are seeking around £75 million for Branthwaite, but there’s a possibility that an initial offer of £65 million from United, supplemented by add-ons, could meet Everton’s valuation.

With Newcastle seemingly out of contention, United stands to benefit from having one less competitor in the race for Branthwaite’s signature.

At Old Trafford, there are uncertain futures around Raphaël Varane, Victor Lindelöf and Harry Maguire.
