“Highly unlikely…” – Unpopular Man United sale ruled out as five players set to stay at Old Trafford
One Manchester United sale has been labelled as “highly unlikely” as the club’s untouchables list appears to have risen to five players.
United finished the 2023/24 season in brilliant style as they won against Manchester City at Wembley to secure their 13th FA Cup trophy.
However, their Premier League and Champions League campaigns left a lot to be desired. They finished eighth in the league and dropped out of the European competition in the group stages.
That has led to doubts over Erik ten Hag’s future at the club despite winning two trophies in his opening two years at Old Trafford.
INEOS, the new co-owners at the club, are also keen to make changes to the playing squad in the upcoming transfer window. However, departures will be just as important as the flashy signings that fans are waiting for.
Interestingly, prior reports claimed that the club would be listening to offers for almost every player in the squad, with Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Højlund the only exceptions.
The likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes are players that the club want to keep but they will be entertaining bids if they match their valuation and the players show a desire to leave.
Recent reports have also claimed that André Onana is another ‘untouchable’ in the squad, with INEOS unlikely to entertain bids for the goalkeeper who joined the club last summer.
Now, The Guardian has claimed that another Red is ‘highly unlikely’ to depart, and it is a player that many fans believe will be crucial for the team going forward.
The report stated that it is highly unlikely that Lisandro Martínez would be sold, given his important status at the club alongside the young trio.
Martínez had an interrupted campaign last term due to multiple injuries but showed off his qualities in the cup final last month.
