Fabrizio Romano has revealed three “crucial” things that Erik ten Hag did at Carrington during an early meeting at Manchester United this week.

The Reds have endured a challenging start to the season, with just three wins from their first eight matches across all competitions.

Despite some early optimism around Erik ten Hag’s squad and their performances, the past week has dampened spirits.

After a midweek draw against FC Twente in the Europa League, United followed up with a dismal 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The pressure is mounting on Ten Hag, who is expected to remain in charge for the upcoming fixtures against FC Porto and Aston Villa, though his long-term future remains uncertain.

Following on from the defeat to Spurs, cameras spotted Ten Hag arriving at United’s training ground at 7:30am.

Fabrizio Romano has explained the reasons behind the Dutchman’s early start in his latest column on his Substack.

“First of all, let’s clarify that on Monday, Erik ten Hag arrived at Carrington really early in the morning because he wanted to talk to the team,” the journalist began.

“He wanted to clarify his ideas and wanted to analyse the game against Tottenham.”

Further on the topic of the Spurs game, Romano added: “There are some situations he wanted to clarify in terms of tactics, but also regarding motivation. This is what was crucial for the manager.”

The only way that Ten Hag will be able to respond to criticism is in the coming days with the next game against Porto on Thursday a must-win for the manager.
