Fabrizio Romano has delivered an “important” update on Erik ten Hag’s situation at Manchester United with tension said to be growing.

Erik ten Hag has faced a tough start to the season, with Manchester United securing only three wins in their first eight matches across all competitions.

Back-to-back 3-0 home losses to Liverpool and Tottenham have increased the pressure on the Dutchman in recent days.

Despite holding discussions with other potential managers in the summer, INEOS extended Ten Hag’s contract until 2026.

They also strengthened the United squad during the summer with key additions such as Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte.

Ten Hag was also able to restructure his coaching team, bringing in Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy as new assistant coaches.

Fabrizio Romano’s important Ten Hag update

There are various rumours suggesting that Ten Hag is going to be dismissed but Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the INEOS leadership are not considering this possibility right now.

Instead, they want to see how the players will react to the poor display at Spurs in the coming games but it was also stated that tension and pressure is growing for the manager.

“The management and the board are not considering to fire Erik ten Hag today or tomorrow despite the result at the weekend, that’s not part of the plan,” Romano wrote on his substack.

“But, what’s important to say is that the pressure and the tension is growing.

“The club can see that the situation is not developing or improving but at the moment their position remains to trust in Erik ten Hag. For sure, the next games are important for his future.

“The board want to see how the squad will react in this difficult moment, what kind of performances there will be and also how the players will react in terms of motivation, because to many people at Manchester United, the feeling was that the reaction to the difficult moments recently was not what’s expected from elite players wearing an important shirt like United’s.

“This is a results industry, and the next few are going to be so important for the long term future of Erik ten Hag at Man United.”
