Erik ten Hag issues Sir Jim Ratcliffe message as Man United complete anticipated deal
Erik ten Hag has issued a message for Sir Jim Ratcliffe as Manchester United completed a much-anticipated deal.
After a frustrating 1-1 draw against FC Twente in the Europa League, Manchester United are preparing to host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in their next Premier League match.
Erik ten Hag’s side has had an uncertain start to the league season, with just two wins from five games and only five goals scored.
Tottenham have also struggled, winning two of their first five matches. Both teams are level on seven points, though Spurs have a slight advantage in goal difference.
This game offers United a chance to gain a vital boost, but they’ll need a far better showing than their recent performance.
Ten Hag issues Ratcliffe message
Ahead of this game, Ten Hag was asked about the difficulties the team are still facing and whether it was expected he would be further along in the process at this point.
This follows rumours surrounding his job security as United manager if results do not improve quickly, however, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe has suggested beforehand, the Dutchman believes that he is making long-term decisions for the club.
“I think you have to assess the situation. Still now we are working and we are in progress. We have to sign players and we made the choice to sign very young players,” he told reporters.
“Like last year, Hojlund and Zirkzee and Leny Yoro are players we believe in for this moment but also for the future and we have to build them. When I started we spoke about more, we had to make a switch in the dressing room.
“We have turned a corner and we have to work with the squad and that takes time and of course, [that is] also not good behaviour for me, I am impatient. I want to go straight forward.
“To be fair, we have also had success in the last two seasons and we have to work very hard to bring further success.”
Obi-Martin continues trend
On the topic of signing young players with a lot of potential, the Premier League ratification process for Chido Obi-Martin’s move to Old Trafford has finally been completed, according to multiple reporters.
Obi-Martin agreed to join United from Arsenal as he sees a better pathway to first-team football at his new club.
The 16-year-old star, who scored 32 times for Arsenal’s U18s last term, will likely play in the Under-21s side and have opportunities to train with the first-team squad.
