Xavi refuses to rule out Manchester United summer transfer for Frenkie de Jong
Xavi has commented on Frenkie de Jong’s current Barcelona transfer status amid links to Manchester United.
Frenkie de Jong and Manchester United were two of the most searched phrases surrounding the Old Trafford club in 2022 after the Dutch midfielder became Erik ten Hag‘s top target ahead of his first season in charge.
Although the transfer never materialised, with United instead signing Casemiro from Real Madrid, Barcelona’s financial situation has meant that the links have never truly gone away, with the midfielder being one of their most sellable high-value assets.

There have been reports from Spain that the Catalan club are open to letting De Jong go in the summer.
Speaking to the media, Barcelona manager Xavi confirmed that a decision will not be made on De Jong’s future at the end of the season.
“He’s a world-class player, and it’s not the right moment to talk about this,” he said. “The club and the player will sit together and talk about his situation at the end of the season.”
It has been said recently that Ten Hag would not be opposed to letting Casemiro leave this summer should the club bring in De Jong.
