“Man United needed that…” – Erik ten Hag told controversial move has paid off
Erik ten Hag has been told that one key decision has benefited Manchester United this season despite question marks from many supporters.
United have not been anywhere near their best this term, with injuries and form being factors behind their sixth-place position in the Premier League.
One player who has been consistent across an extremely inconsistent season is Diogo Dalot, who has started 30 games already this season.
The defender has been a key player for Ten Hag when he’s been fit, but many have had question marks over the Portuguese player signed by Jose Mourinho in 2018.

His defensive abilities have been one of those aspects questioned; however, former United defender Mikael Silvestre believes that it is an area in which he has improved.
“His performance against Villa was probably one of his best this season. The question mark for him was always on the defensive end – decision-making and positioning. He’s improved, definitely. That’s why he’s keeping his place in the side and the XI,” he told bettingexpert.
“Important in the league to have a strong back four. We know offensively, he can deliver good passes and make an impact going forward. The team needs that.”
Dalot currently ranks highly in many defensive statistics in the Premier League, with the right-back also offering importance for United in possession.
His abilities on the ball have allowed Ten Hag to move him inside to aid the midfield, whilst he has also shown solid abilities when staying on the flank, such as last game against Aston Villa.
Dalot was one of the standout players and assisted Scott McTominay’s winning goal with a beautiful cross.
