Two of Manchester United’s 1999 treble-winning teammates have heaped praise on current Red Devils striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Højlund, who is United’s current leading goalscorer with 11 goals in all competitions this season, has been in electric form of late.

Scoring in six of his last seven matches for United, Højlund continued his record by opening the scoring in United’s 2-1 win against Aston Villa over the weekend.

Højlund’s impressive showings of late have been praised by many, with the latest being his fellow countryman and Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel.

Schmeichel, who captained United on that famous night in Barcelona where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won the Champions League for the club, was full of praise for his fellow countryman Højlund.

“At no point have I been in any doubt that this lad is the real deal,” Schmeichel told talkSPORT. “He has everything in his locker.

“I have seen this for a year now, [from] when he broke into the Danish team; I have seen this guy, you know, when you see something that is very special, it doesn’t come along very often. That’s what I’ve seen in him.”

Wes Brown, one of Schmeichel’s teammates in that treble-winning team, would agree with the goalkeeper, highlighting Hojlund’s goalscoring abilities.

“In the right positions, when he gets opportunities he puts it in the back of the net, it’s exactly what we wanted from him.” Brown would tell MUTV.

Højlund was also praised by Paul Merson after United’s victory over Aston Villa, with the striker being labelled as a future “superstar” by the former Arsenal player.
