Who is Chido Obi Martin? Man United’s record-breaking starlet: Age, position, nationality & more
Manchester United have completed the signing of Arsenal’s record-breaking talent Chido Obi Martin after a long Premier League ratification process.
It was reported earlier in the summer that Manchester United had convinced Chido Obi Martin, one of the most exciting talents in the country, to join the club.
The former Arsenal academy talent has been waiting for the Premier League and FA to approve his move but that process has finally been completed.
Many fans are excited about the potential this player supposedly has but might not know that much about him.
Below, UtdDistrict provide all of the information you need to know about Chido Obi Martin.
Who is Chido Obi Martin?
Chido Obi Martin is a 16-year-old exciting attacking talent who joined Arsenal’s academy at the age of 14 after spending his younger years at his local Danish club Kjøbenhavns Boldklub.
He made his first appearance for the Under-21s side at Arsenal while he was only 15 years of age and was also called up to train with Mikel Arteta’s side during the 2023/24 campaign.
Obi Martin netted 10 goals for the Under-16s in a game against Liverpool and scored 32 goals in the U18s Premier League last season.
This was the most by any player in Arsenal Under-18s history. Obi Martin smashed the record previously held by Monaco star Folarin Balogun.
What position does Chido Obi Martin play?
Unsurprisingly, the goal machine Obi Martin plays as a central striker and that has been his main position since he joined Arsenal’s academy.
What is Chido Obi Martin’s profile?
As an out and out no.9, Obi Martin excels at much of what you’d expect; goalscoring, movement, back-to-goal play.
Denmark’s under-18s head coach Morten Eskesen believes that the teenager has several skills that he uses to be a great goalscorer for his level.
“His greatest competence is that he scores many goals,” Eskesen told Tipsbladet earlier this month.
“If you saw some of the goals at the European Championships… he’s a really good finisher and positionally good, so he gets free for that.
“He is also good man-to-man. He is good at running in depth in relation to getting into free positions. His finishing skills are what allow him to score so many goals.”
What country is Chido Obi Martin from?
Obi Martin was born in Glostrup, a suburb in Copenhagen. His parents are Nigerian and he is able to represent both countries at an international level.
The 16-year-old has so far represented the country of his birth, Denmark, and impressed in their Under-17s team, scoring 12 goals in 17 appearances.
He made his debut for Denmark Under-18s in September 2024, scoring in a 5-3 win over Norway.
What team will Chido Obi Martin play for?
There have been conflicting reports on what Obi Martin’s role will be now that his Old Trafford move is completed.
Some rumours have claimed that he could immediately join the first-team squad as Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s backup. Meanwhile, others have suggested that is premature and he will instead get opportunities to impress in first-team training.
It seems most likely that Obi Martin plays Under-21s football at United but it is clear that he is highly-rated and Erik ten Hag will definitely be keeping a close eye on the young striker.
