Rasmus Højlund highlights ‘huge’ Manchester United change that could help him explode this season
Rasmus Højlund had highlighted a ‘huge’ change at Manchester United that could see him become a potent striker under Erik ten Hag.
Signing from Atalanta in a deal worth around £72 million last summer, Rasmus Højlund finished the 2023/24 season as Manchester United‘s top scorer with 16 goals.
However, his debut campaign under Erik ten Hag was not smooth sailing. Like the rest of the squad, the 21-year-old suffered multiple on- and off-field problems across the 12 months.

After Højlund’s debut, while he performed well in the Champions League, he did not score in any of his opening 14 Premier League appearances, followed by scoring seven games in a row in the competition.
However, he suffered from a hamstring strain and a further muscle problem during the season, missing 14 fixtures in total.
After competing in the 2024 European Championships with Denmark, Højlund returned to the club to participate in pre-season. However, in his first game back against Arsenal in July, he scored, then hurt his hamstring and has only just returned to action.
With the striker now back in Ten Hag’s team and training, GiveMeSport has revealed that Højlund had told his friends there is a change at the club, which he sees as a significant step in his career.
According to the report, Højlund has explained that he feels being trained by new first-team coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was a deadly striker during his peak at Old Trafford as a player, is a “huge moment” in his career.
Van Nistelrooy’s addition to Ten Hag’s coaching staff has been well-received by fans and players, and some have touted him as a potential heir to Ten Hag in the near or distant future.
Van Nistelrooy has been touted as a coach who can help not just Højlund but also other attackers such as Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Joshua Zirkzee, all of whom thrive in goal-scoring scenarios.
The Dutch coach has been incredibly active and involved on the touchline during fixtures so far and will undoubtedly have a significant impact on Rasmus Højlund’s career.
