Erik ten Hag names Manchester United star who could fix the No. 1 problem vs Tottenham
Erik ten Hag has pinpointed the star he thinks could solve Manchester United’s problems ahead of their Premier League tie against Tottenham.
After a disappointing 1-1 draw with FC Twente in the Europa League, Manchester United are set to resume Premier League play by hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag‘s team has had a shaky start to the league season, winning just two of their first five matches and scoring a modest five goals.

Tottenham have experienced a similar struggle, with two wins from their opening five games. They are tied with United on seven points but hold a slight edge due to a superior goal difference.
United’s main issue in the Premier League has been their poor finishing. Despite scoring only five goals, they have an xG of 10.21, suggesting that while they can create the chances to shoot, they fail to convert.
In his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag was asked if he thinks new striker Joshua Zirkzee will become a prolific goalscorer for the club.
“Yes, I do,” the United manager replied. “He is young and you see his capabilities.
“He is a very good link-up player, he is creative, and he has had his moments in front of goal, but he can definitely improve [at shooting]. But we knew that beforehand.
“He has some very good attributes and some attributes he has to improve and he needs our support so he can improve.”
Ten Hag further reiterated his point that he understands not enough goals are being scored and that, as a team, this is a crucial area they must work toward.
“We are not scoring enough goals,” Ten Hag said. “That is the problem, the key area. We have to score more goals as a team; we have players across the team who have the ability to score, that is clear, and with all the opportunities we are creating, we are not scoring enough.”
