Wayne Rooney delivers damning verdict on Manchester United players who are repeating a mistake
Wayne Rooney has delivered a damning verdict on Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United players following poor performances across all competitions.
Manchester United‘s season has been a complete nightmare so far, with the team stuck in 14th place in the Premier League and still searching for their first Europa League win.
Stalemates against Crystal Palace, FC Porto, and FC Twente, combined with 3-0 home defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham, have left Erik ten Hag and his squad under intense scrutiny.

Last season, United’s performances took a nosedive as the club’s players were greatly affected by an injury crisis that completely took hold of the club.
Speaking at a recent event, former United captain Wayne Rooney explained that players are repeating their mistake of not performing to the best of their abilities despite a turbulent situation.
“With Manchester United, they want to be challenging for titles. So to be 14th (in the Premier League table), I’m sure everyone at the football club knows they need to improve on that,” he told Sky News.
“I’m sure, well, I know Erik ten Hag is doing everything he can to try and improve that. Players, again, said this last year, need to do better than what they’re doing, and there’s a big turnaround in players over the last few years, and, you know, you just want to see them challenging again.”
Further, Rooney was asked if Ten Hag is still the right fit for the job at United, to which Rooney deflected that this could only be decided by the leadership team at Old Trafford.
“Well that’s obviously down to the owners of the football club to look at that. I’m sure Erik ten Hag is a fantastic manager. He’s won trophies wherever he’s been and won trophies at United as well.”
“He’s going through a difficult period, and I think he’d probably say that himself. But you hope he can turn it around because too often managers lose their jobs, and then it’s another rebuild with a different manager.”
