“That is clear…” – Ruud van Nistelrooy sends transfer advice to Ruben Amorim ahead of Man United arrival
Interim Manchester United manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent transfer advice to incoming boss Ruben Amorim ahead of his arrival.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will lead Manchester United as interim manager for the final time this weekend in their Premier League match against Leicester City.
The Dutchman has overseen two wins and one draw in his three games, including victories over Leicester in the Carabao Cup and PAOK in the Europa League.
He’ll be keen to end his stint on a high, with three points vital for United as they look to climb the Premier League standings.
The Reds are currently 13th after a challenging start, leaving incoming boss Ruben Amorim with a tough path to secure European qualification for next season.
Van Nistelrooy sends Amorim advice
Ahead of his arrival next week, Amorim received some advice from Van Nistelrooy during his latest press conference.
The Dutchman was asked about the goalscoring problems at Old Trafford, with United having scored just nine goals in their 10 Premier League outings.
He explained that the young forwards at Old Trafford–such as Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee–need to be developed in order to become reliable goalscorers.
However, Van Nistelrooy added that you need guaranteed goals to be ‘a successful side’ which suggests that Amorim should be looking to sign a more experienced striker for his team.
“I agree that when you want to be a successful side in the Premier League and in Europe, which is what the build is all about, you need a certain amount of goals,” he began.
“That is clear. That is why the best teams in the world have those players. At the moment, we have players who get a certain amount of goals and assists.
“But they are in an age where they still need to be developed. There is potential they will be and the belief is there they can. That’s where we are at this moment.”
Of course, United have been heavily linked to Amorim’s current no.9 Viktor Gyökeres but the head coach has confirmed that he will not attempt to sign the striker in January.
However, a summer transfer approach should not be ruled out after latest reports claim United are in the race to sign the 26-year-old.
