Paul Scholes has praised three Manchester United players following their 2-1 victory against Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

Erik ten Hag’s side secured an important win after looking like they might drop points, with Scott McTominay scoring the winning goal for the team late in the game.

Rasmus Højlund had opened the scoring for United with an excellent striker’s finish before Douglas Luiz levelled the game for Villa before doing a celebration he would go on to regret.

However, it was Harry Maguire who won Man of the Match on the day with a solid display at the back with an assist for Højlund to go with it.

In front of him was Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo, who both struggled in periods against Villa’s midfield setup but managed to have solid games overall.

Paul Scholes highlighted the roles of Maguire, McTominay and Casemiro when speaking about the game.

“Casemiro coming in is a big plus, the form of Maguire, in both boxes, he was very good today, and McTominay has been a real threat when he’s come on. He’s making a big difference to the team,” Scholes told Premier League Productions.

The former United midfielder went on to claim that Ten Hag’s side could beat Villa and Tottenham Hotspur to the Premier League’s top four.

United are currently in sixth place, but after their latest win, they are now five points away from Unai Emery’s side and six from Spurs.

“I believed that before the game, I always thought we’d have a chance. Once we got those players back, it was important, especially with the blend of the youth we’ve got now, some talented young players,” he added.

“I think United will finish above Tottenham and Villa, I think they’ll catch them both in the end and finish fourth.”
