Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær has launched a plan to sign one of his former players this summer, as a potential move has recently broken down.
Manchester United are still looking to sell at least five first-team players before the end of the transfer window, with sales crucial if the Red Devils want to sign any more players this summer.
The famous “Bomb Squad” all remain contracted to United, while Marcus Rashford has moved on loan for the 2025/26 season; he is still a Red Devils player. The other four outcasts – Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho – all remain at Old Trafford, with the September 1 deadline fast approaching.
All four have had chances to leave United, but have rejected the move due to several different reasons. They are unlikely to remain at the club, but Rúben Amorim could be forced into considering whether any can stay with little success in shipping them off.
Rasmus Hojlund is another player who has to leave the club, having been left out of the squad for the opening Premier League fixture against Arsenal, with new No.30 Benjamin Šeško taking his place.
Besiktas re-enter Sancho race
Ole Gunnar Solskjær recently began his first management role after leaving United, taking charge of Besiktas in the Turkish Super League, while Jose Mourinho is also managing Fenerbahce.
The Norwegian famously pursued Sancho for almost two years, as he would’ve been the right-winger he needed to take United to the next level, or that is what we thought.
After a difficult period at Old Trafford and a loan move at Chelsea, Sancho now looks set for a move away from United. AS Roma submitted a £20 million offer for the winger, but Sancho turned it down and is still a United player as it stands.
Besiktas registered interest in him earlier in the window, but it was believed that Sancho wanted to remain in the top five leagues. However, after missing out on Goncalo Guedes from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Besiktas have re-entered the race for Sancho, reports Sporx.
However, Solskjær looks set to make his club wait until after the September 1 deadline before making a move for Sancho, as the Turkish transfer window remains open for a further 12 days. This would give Besiktas a free run at the 25-year-old, but if he turns them down, he would be forced into staying at United.
What do United do if Sancho says no?
Many thought that Chelsea would take up their £25 million buy-option for Sancho, rather than sending him back to Old Trafford for £5 million, but alas, they chose the latter.
Having received an offer from Italian Giants Roma, it seemed destined that Sancho would finally leave United, but the 25-year-old turned the move down and for seemingly no good reason.
With Besiktas looking set to wait until after the September 1 deadline, Sancho could have just the offer from the Turkish club on the table at the end of the window, and if he turns that down, he will have to stay at United.
Then, Amorim will be forced into a difficult decision: does Sancho get reintegrated into the first team, or does he train individually for six months? With Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Mason Mount and several other options ahead of him already, he is very unlikely to get into the side, but should he train with the group?
Joining the first team could disrupt the family atmosphere Amorim appears to have created over the summer, but so could making him train on his own. It’s a very difficult decision that could easily come to fruition.
