Fabrizio Romano has revealed Manchester United’s next steps in the transfer window after they finally secured Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford
Bryan Mbeumo looks set to become the second senior signing of the summer transfer window, after a drawn-out negotiation process, which saw Manchester United and Brentford battle for weeks over £5 million.
He adds to Rúben Amorim’s impressive attacking midfield options at Old Trafford, with the Cameroonian likely to play alongside Matheus Cunha in the two No. 10 roles.
Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team have been searching for several positions this summer, but have spent the majority of their time on the Mbeumo deal, ensuring he joined the club to bolster Amorim’s attack.
The hunt for the Brentford forward has also held up United’s outgoings this summer, with no player yet to leave the club permanently, and the only incoming funds coming from sell-on clauses in Elanga and other former players’ contracts.
United need to move quickly for the rest of the summer transfer window as pre-season begins on Saturday, with the Red Devils taking on Leeds United before heading to the United States for the remainder of the tour.
Romano reveals Wilcox will search for a striker
At the beginning of the transfer window, many fans thought United would sign Liam Delap as their next centre forward, but the former Ipswich Town player favoured a move to Chelsea over Old Trafford.
Despite this, links to strikers haven’t gone away for the Red Devils, but several targets have already sealed a move to their new clubs while United negotiated a deal for Mbeumo.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that “Manchester United plan to sign a new striker in the next weeks as main target after Bryan Mbeumo deal done.”
While some targets have already moved, United could still have time to hijack a deal for several centre-forwards who are close to a move away.
Viktor Gyokeres, who looked set for Arsenal, remains a Sporting CP player for the meantime, and the club are known to be fond of Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Outgoings key for United says Romano
In the same report, Romano also confirmed that outgoings will be key for United’s transfer budget this summer, with several players looking for a move still at the club.
Many fans thought that Antony, who excelled on loan last season, would’ve made a permanent switch to Real Betis before pre-season began, but the Brazilian remains a United player at present.

Jadon Sancho has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after his loan move in London, with clubs in Italy looking most likely to sign the winger if they can agree a price with United.
Several other players could still leave United before the start of the new season, but Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford are likely to be priority sales, as they are expected to generate the most funds for Amorim’s summer budget.
