Manchester United have been alerted to the possibility of signing Callum Wilson this January, according to reports.

Manchester United are looking to sign reinforcements up front this summer with Erik ten Hag‘s squad lacking in consistent goals and the impending loss of Anthony Martial in the summer.

Rasmus Højlund is the club’s only striker and currently sits as their top scorer, but the 20-year-old has just seven goals across all competitions this season.

It is an issue that has plagued Old Trafford time and time again in the last five months, and Newcastle United may have just offered Erik ten Hag the perfect solution to his striker problem.

According to Standard Sport, Newcastle may be selling striker Callum Wilson for just £18 million in the final week of the January transfer window as they need to raise funds to stay in line with Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been alerted to his availability, and all three clubs want to sign a striker – Wilson’s ability as a proven Premier League goalscorer is a very attractive option.

Wilson has scored a total of 46 goals in 102 games for Newcastle and has scored 86 Premier League goals to date for Newcastle and Bournemouth.

Speaking on the latest episode of his Footballer’s Football Podcast with Michail Antonio, he was asked about rumours linking him with a move away in the current window.

“It’s January,” he said. “The window is open, and there is always speculation with players, not just regarding myself but with everyone else in the squad as well. I haven’t got much more to say than that.”
