According to reports, Juventus are keeping tabs on Mason Greenwood’s developing situation, with Manchester United having made their demands clear.

It is no secret that Manchester United will be selling Mason Greenwood this summer after the club announced that the academy graduate would never play for the club again.

This decision followed after the player was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse in January 2022, but the CPS eventually dropped the case, and United did its own internal investigation.

Despite coming close to bringing the player back, fan pressure forced the club to conclude that Greenwood would spend the 2023/24 season on loan at Getafe.

With Greenwood performing well at the La Liga club, Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that Juventus have been keeping an eye on his current situation.

It is said that they have looked to find out more information surrounding the Englishman’s circumstances. He has caught the attention of the club’s sporting director, Cristiano Guintoli, and his deputy, Giovanni Manna.

Juventus are particularly intrigued by Greenwood’s youth and skill, yet it is his contractual status that holds even greater significance. With his current contract at Manchester United set to expire in 2025, Greenwood’s availability has heightened interest within the Bianconeri camp.

In terms of demands, last month it was reported that United have now settled on a demand of £34 million for his services from next season onwards.

Opinion: Selling Greenwood would be good

Selling outcast Mason Greenwood could potentially benefit Manchester United in several ways, despite his undeniable talent and potential. While Greenwood has shown flashes of brilliance on the pitch, his off-field behaviour and disciplinary issues have raised concerns among fans. Here are a few reasons why parting ways with Greenwood might be in Manchester United’s best interest:

Manchester United pride themselves on its tradition of discipline, professionalism, and dedication both on and off the pitch. Greenwood’s off-field controversies, including legal issues and breaches of club rules, have undermined the team’s values and cohesion. Selling him would allow the club to reinforce its commitment to maintaining a positive and respectful culture within the squad.

Despite Greenwood’s clear potential, his market value has been affected by his off-field issues. By selling him now, United could still command a significant transfer fee such as the £34 millions stated above, especially considering his young age and talent. This influx of funds would then be used by INEOS to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Beyond this, a cohesive and harmonious squad is essential for success on the field. Greenwood’s presence, particularly in light of his off-field issues, could potentially disrupt team dynamics as the squad may become split on his reintegration. Selling him would remove this potential source of tension and allow the remaining players to focus fully on their performance and achieving collective goals.

While Greenwood is undoubtedly a talented player, his departure could create opportunities for other young talents within the Manchester United academy to step up and prove themselves. Players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Højlund, and Kobbie Mainoo have gone on to shine since Greenwood last played for the club, and they should be the main priorities.

Selling Greenwood would also help protect the club’s reputation. Manchester United is a globally recognized brand with millions of fans worldwide. The behaviour of its players, both on and off the pitch, reflects on the club’s image and reputation. Selling Greenwood would demonstrate that Manchester United takes disciplinary matters seriously and is willing to uphold its standards, even if it means parting ways with a promising talent.

While Mason Greenwood undoubtedly possesses immense talent, his off-field issues may outweigh his on-field contributions for Manchester United. Selling him could allow the club to reinforce its values, strengthen squad harmony, generate funds for reinvestment, provide opportunities for other young talents, and protect its reputation.

Ultimately, making such a decision would require careful consideration of various factors, but it could potentially benefit Manchester United in the long run.
