Manchester United have set two demands for Victor Osimhen to “hold further talks” with the Nigerian forward’s camp.
Despite the transfer window not being open for long, Manchester United have already looked at several striker targets to join Rúben Amorim’s rebuild next season.
Liam Delap appeared to be the favourite to join the club, with his £30 million relegation release clause appealing to the recruitment team, but he has now joined Chelsea to reunite with his former Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca.
Attention then turned to Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as attacking targets. Cunha has already joined the club and Mbeumo appears to be happy to join the club, but both look more likely to play as attacking midfielders, meaning a centre forward is still needed.
Viktor Gyokeres, a former player of Amorim at Sporting CP, is another striking option, but the lack of Champions League football could be an important factor in his potential transfer.
Several reports state that Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team are still interested in Gyokeres, but he could favour a move to another Premier League club.
United make two Osimhen demands
Another striker option for United is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who has spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Galatasaray in the Turkish league.
It seemed like the striker was destined for a move to Saudi Arabia but he has rejected the proposals coming from Al-Hilal and now is destined to remain in Europe.
As per the United Stand, the Red Devils “will hold further talks” with the Nigerian but only if two conditions are met beforehand.
The first condition is that Osimhen must have “a genuine interest” in playing at Old Trafford, even with the club missing out on Champions League and Europa League football.
However, the second condition demands that Osimhen reduces his wage demands to a “realistic level”; this could be the stumbling block in negotiations after he rejected jaw-dropping money from Saudi.
Joshua Zirkzee could be used as a makeweight in the deal for Osimhen, if talks go well, with United looking at a potential swap deal involving the two strikers.
Obi involvement in question
With the poor form of Rasmus Hojlund last season, especially in the Premier League, many fans called for Chido Obi to be given more minutes after impressing in the under-21s.
The young striker couldn’t be registered for the Europa League, but played regularly in league games towards the end of the season. Obi even scored a brace in United’s win over Hong Kong on the post-season tour.
However, the 17-year-old could struggle for minutes next season, especially with no European football. Obi could be fighting for appearances along with Hojlund, Zirkzee and a new striker.
With his development being the most important factor at his age, Obi may be forced into a loan move away from Old Trafford to continue playing regular football at a good level.
