Manchester United receive significant Jobe Bellingham transfer update amid Championship play-off clash

Manchester United have received a fresh transfer update on Sunderland starlet Jobe Bellingham amid the Championship side’s play-off clash with Coventry City.

Ruben Amorim is eager to strengthen his Manchester United squad during the upcoming summer transfer window as he prepares for his first full season at the helm.

The club intends to bring in several new players while offloading those who don’t fit into Amorim’s long-term plans. Instead of chasing expensive marquee signings, United are prioritising emerging young talents with the potential to become world-class.

Recruitment chiefs Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell have already begun pinpointing possible additions.

One name being linked to the club is Jobe Bellingham. The Sunderland youngster has caught the attention of United scouts with a series of impressive displays in the Championship.

United receive fresh Bellingham transfer update

Bellingham, 19, has been a standout player in the Championship this term and has won the competition’s Young Player of the Season award.

The teenager has helped Sunderland reach the play-offs and was a standout player in the 2-1 win in the first-leg of their semi-final against Coventry City.

Meanwhile, reports from Germany have emerged which state Borussia Dortmund have made the Sunderland starlet their number one priority target heading into the summer window.

That will give United déjà vu after the Bundesliga side pipped them to the signing of Jude Bellingham, Jobe’s older brother, in the summer of 2020.

Patrick Berger has explained that Bellingham is open to the idea of moving to Dortmund, although it was added that he would like to play Champions League football and Dortmund are currently fifth in the Bundesliga.

United could qualify for Europe’s elite competition by winning the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur later this month.

The aforementioned report also claimed that Bellingham could cost around £20 million in the summer, although Sunderland will also be keen to try and keep him if they are promoted to the Premier League.

United need midfield reinforcements

Whether it be Bellingham or someone else, it is clear that Amorim needs to bolster his United midfield in the summer transfer window.

Despite the priority being the forward line, United are also set to see Christian Eriksen depart the club while Casemiro’s future also seems uncertain despite his excellent performances of late.

Manuel Ugarte was signed last summer but there remain some question marks over his ability to be a starting player in Amorim’s team.

Bellingham would likely be a signing for depth, while some supporters would argue that the Reds need a starting central midfielder signed.
