Manchester United have received a transfer boost in their pursuit of Senne Lammens, as Royal Antwerp are now said to be “very confident” about the deal.
Manchester United have to act quickly if they want to finalise new transfers before the deadline closes on Monday evening.
After Jason Wilcox and the transfer team realised Carlos Baleba would be an impossible signing, United changed their attention to signing a goalkeeper to replace Andre Onana as the starter.
Altay Bayindir has started the first two Premier League games of the season and, after Onana’s performance against Grimsby Town, he looks set to start the game on Saturday against Burnley.
However, Rúben Amorim doesn’t appear to be happy with Bayindir as his starting shotstopper, and United have been pursuing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with United for weeks, but progress on a deal hasn’t been made until now.
Antwerp manager reveals Lammens transfer is close
Lammens was left out of Antwerp’s fixture last weekend, but the manager has revealed he will miss this weekend’s match as well, as a transfer appears to be close.
“Senne is following an individual program,” said Stef Willis, the Antwerp manager. “In consultation with all parties. That’s a logical decision. Since this could be a major outgoing transfer, we want to minimise the risk of injuries.”
To add to this, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has stated that Royal Antwerp are “very confident” in selling Lammens to United for a fee of around £22 million.
With Lammens out of team training, he looks destined to join United and could be available for selection for the Manchester derby after the international break.
Bayindir needs to impress against Burnley
After Onana’s performance against Grismby in the Carabao Cup, Bayindir is almost certain to start in goal for Scott Parker’s visit to Old Trafford.

While Lammens’ joining could put his future in doubt, if Bayindir impresses, he could still be considered for the starting role even after the Belgian joins the club.
The Antwerp shotstopper was set to compete with Onana for the starting position, but with the Cameroonian struggling for form, Lammens could find himself competing with Bayindir.
