According to a new report, highly praised Lille defender Leny Yoro may be allowed to leave the Ligue 1 side due to the funds he would bring in for the French team.

Yoro, 18, has received plaudits from across the world of football for his performances so far this season, playing in 17 of Lille’s 18 Ligue 1 games this season.

The centre-back, who is represented by Jorge Mendes, made his debut for the club aged just 16, and is believed to have a host of top clubs chasing his signature, including Manchester United.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, French football expert Jonathon Johnson revealed that Lille may allow Yoro to agree a move away from the side if it resulted in him seeing out the rest of the season with the team.

“My understanding is Lille could accept permanent bids for him [Yoro] as long as he stayed there until the end of the season, similar to Chelsea’s deal with Malo Gusto last year.” Stated Johnson.

“Yoro staying would be of a huge benefit to Lille, but it might also suit them if they can bring in some money for him ahead of the summer if that opportunity arises.

It had been reported late last year that United had taken “concrete action” to sign Yoro, with the young defender a key target of Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Centre-back is one of several positions United feel they need to rebuild going forward, with a host of targets in the position being linked with the club.

With four of United’s five current centre-backs being aged 29 or older, Yoro would represent a renewed focus on the club’s long-term health.

Meanwhile, UtdDistrict understands that United’s own centre-back youth prospect Willy Kambwala has attracted loan interest from several teams.
